  • Service Animals

Owners of Service Animals may qualify for a free dog tag.

The ADA defines a service animal as any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability. Animal license tags are free at the Animal Service shelter with the proper documentation certifying the service that the animal is providing for the owner.

The dog must be a Service Animal as defined by the federal Americans with Disabilities Act.

    • Owners are required to provide a Service Animal Certificate for the dog that is being registered stating that the animal has been trained to provide assistance to an individual with disability.
    • Must be a Miami-Dade County resident.
    • Proof of rabies vaccination.
  • Police Dog (K-9)

    Police dog tags are free.

    • Owner or handler must still comply with the vaccination and licensing requirements.
    • Copy of the dog's Rabies Certificate, which contains the police station or municipal government address.
    • The Certificate identifying the dog as a police dog. Animal Services cannot tell whether the request is legitimate without the rabies certificate even if the dog has a three-year vaccine.
