Veterans, adults, and youth (ages 10 and older) with disabilities will have an opportunity to experience the weightless wonder of water and scuba dive with a certified scuba diving volunteer through the Diveheart Scuba Experience. The event aims to use scuba as a tool to help build confidence and independence in people with disabilities that have mobility challenges on land by enabling them to experience the liberating buoyancy of immersion in water. This special event will be held Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at A.D. Barnes Pool, 3401 SW 72 Ave., Miami.
Advance registration and medical clearance are required to participate and must be received at least one week prior to the event. For more information, contact Belinda Phillips at 305-380-9106 or Terri Bukacheski at 305-598-9688.
The activity is presented by the Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department's Disability Services Aquatic Division, in partnership with the Diveheart Foundation and its underwriter Ortho Pro Associates.
