Make sure you do not pour hot grease down the drain. Once it cools, it will harden again and cause clogs. Instead, pour out the grease into a can, let it cool and throw away in the garbage.
In 2017, the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department repaired 735 clogs at a cost of nearly $600,000 that were caused by items that shouldn't have been disposed down the drains or flushed down the toilet.
Recent studies have shown that most of the grease that is causing damages to this system is coming from single-family, apartment and condo residents. The repairs to the County's sewage system can be costly to taxpayers.Learn more about Keep your sink happy
