In 2018, Miami International Airport passed the 45-million-passenger milestone for the first time in the airport's history, serving nearly one million more travelers than the previous year. MIA served nearly 21.9 million international passengers and 23.1 million domestic travelers in 2018.
“As our County’s largest economic engine, MIA’s growth has the largest impact on business revenue and job creation in our community,” Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez said.
Hub carrier American Airlines along with four other airlines introduced new routes in 2018, adding to the increase in passenger traffic. In 2019, four international carriers will introduce flights to London, Casablanca, Warsaw and Paris.
As the busiest U.S. airport for international freight, MIA also set a new record of 2.3 million tons of freight, 60,000 tons more than in 2017.
