Rental and Other Assistance for the Homeless or Evicted

If you are homeless or have been evicted, you can receive help with your first month's rent payment, security deposit, mortgage, utility bills, emergency shelter or food.

You can receive one type of assistance per year.

The maximum amount you can receive is $800 for rent or $1,200 in mortgage assistance.

  • Housing Assistance

    The following housing assistance is available:

    First-Month Assistance

    • You must be homeless or evicted from a prior residence. The maximum assistance offered is $800.
    • You must provide a lease agreement stating the terms of occupancy.

    Rental Assistance

    • You must submit the three-day notice, court eviction (5-day notice) or 24-hour notice to your caseworker. The maximum assistance offered is $800 for rental assistance.

    Mortgage Assistance

    • The maximum assistance offered is $1,200 for mortgage assistance.

    Checks are paid to the landlord or management company. If the maximum payment does not satisfy the payment requirements of the landlord, you must pay the balance and security deposit (payment receipt required).

    You can only receive one type of assistance per year.

    Visit one of three Community Resource Centers to apply.

  • Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP)

    The Emergency Food and Shelter Program provides assistance to Miami-Dade residents experiencing a one-time crisis situation which interrupts their ability to pay utility bills, rent or mortgage, or to secure necessary food. The program also provides assistance for temporary shelter on a limited basis. In order to receive aid, one must be able to document the crisis and show ability to maintain expenses after the receipt of the emergency assistance.

    Visit one of three Community Resource Centers for information and to apply.
