Message from the Mayor

Since taking office as Mayor of Miami-Dade County, my administration has been laser-focused on building an economy that works for everyone. Our local economy has been ranked one of the most-recovered from the pandemic nationwide. Now, we’re building on the infusion of talent and capital in our region to develop an economy where all people can thrive.

Our Future-Ready Economic Development Plan puts the people of Miami-Dade first, as we bolster pathways to new small business opportunities, expand access to the innovation economy, and invest in resilience to future-proof our economy and our environment. Our plan fosters greater collaboration among public, private, nonprofit, and academic partners for a diverse, sustainable, and thriving economy.

Aligned with our FutureReady vision, my priority is to create economic opportunities for all. Whether you are an individual seeking education and training to transform your career, or a small business owner, our County is here to support you.
Mayor speaking.
Thanks to the FutureReady scholarship at Miami Dade College, all county residents can attain an Associate's Degree at no cost. We recognize the unique challenges that small businesses face and are committed to providing the necessary tools for success in our rapidly expanding economy through STRIVE305. This program offers a comprehensive range of services, including workshops, mentorship, funding opportunities, networking events, and a bi-weekly newsletter, all designed to help business owners thrive.

Under my administration, we are also taking bold strides to build for the future. That means facing the threat of climate change head-on.

Being at the forefront of the global climate crisis is both a challenge and a key opportunity for our region. I am extremely proud that we have brought down $1.5 billion in state and federal grants for infrastructure projects. And that we are the Nation’s ClimateReady Tech Hub! This initiative, led by my office, aims to accelerate our region's growth in climate technology, driving economic innovation and creating high-quality jobs. Together with our public, private, academic, and community partners, we will position South Florida as a global leader in climate adaptation and mitigation technology. We have united over 200 partners across our region, from Palm Beach to Monroe, to achieve this goal.

Collaboration, as always, is key to our success.

This plan is powered by our belief that local government and the business community must be equal partners, fueling the solutions together that elevate our economy. We will invest in a brighter future for our businesses – from small business entrepreneurs to huge global firms, and from companies that have thrived here for generations to those we have welcomed in recent months.  As businesses and investors are flock to our region, bolstered by a growing tech sector and the new “work-from-anywhere” economy, we welcome the new ideas and perspectives that they bring. To all those in search of warmer weather, lower taxes, and our diversity and aptitude for innovation, we welcome the opportunity to partner as we build a more diverse local economy.

Time and again, Miami-Dade has shown that we are at our best when we stand together to take on big challenges.

I look forward to working closely with our Board of County Commissioners, County employees, municipalities, and all community partners to build a Future-Ready economy that will support a stronger, more prosperous, more resilient Miami-Dade.
