Fire Prevention and Safety Appeals Board

The Miami-Dade Fire Prevention and Safety Appeals Board, established in 1987, hears appeals of decisions of any Fire Marshal in Miami-Dade County, including Miami-Dade, Miami, Hialeah, Coral Gables, Miami Beach and Key Biscayne. The Board operates in accordance with Section 14-35 and 14-36 of the Code of Miami-Dade County. The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department is charged with hosting and supporting the Board.

The Board is comprised of 13 members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. The Board appoints a chairperson and vice-chairperson. Staff includes a Board Secretary and County Attorney. The Board members are volunteers with expertise and experience in a wide variety of disciplines including licensed architects, professional engineers, occupational safety experts, and fire safety experts.

Qualified individuals interested in serving on the Board and having the required expertise should contact the Board Secretary for information regarding which positions are available and how to apply.


Filing an Appeal

To file an appeal of a decision of any Fire Marshal within Miami-Dade County, complete the application and follow the instructions in the application package.

Appeals Board meetings are held in the Training Facility at Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department, 9300 NW 41 Street, Doral.


Board Decisions

Board orders are the decisions of the cases brought to the Fire Prevention and Safety Appeals Board. Email the Board Secretary to request a certified copy of a specific Board order. Certified copies of orders are $1 per page.
