Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
County offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 15 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. Learn about the County services affected, find events to honor Dr. King's legacy and discover ways to get involved in your community.
Services
- Miami-Dade County offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 15
- Transportation and Public Works (Metrobus, Metrorail and Metromover) will operate on a regular weekday schedule
- Miami‑Dade Libraries will be closed Monday, Jan. 15
- Miami-Dade County Solid Waste will not collect garbage or bulk trash on Monday, Jan. 15. Curbside recycling collection service will take place as scheduled
Events
- 47th Annual MLK Parade and Festivities - Monday, Jan. 15
Scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the planned 2.5-hour Liberty City route running from Northwest 54th Street and 10th Avenue to 32nd Avenue, the parade follows 8 miles of sacred ground that Dr. King once traveled during his frequent engagements in Miami. - 39th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Day 5K Run & Fitness Walk - Monday, Jan. 15
Participate in the annual 5K Run & Fitness Walk, which begins at 8 a.m. at the MLK Plaza Metrorail Station. Runners should arrive for registration between 6:30 and 7:45 a.m. - MLK Family Festival - Monday, Jan. 15
The festivities continue at noon with Miami-Dade Parks at the MLK Memorial Park with live music, dance and theatrical performances, a crafts marketplace, food vendors and children's activities.

Help sustain a healthy and vibrant environment by volunteering at Deerwood Bonita Lakes Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. - YMCA of South Florida's 2024 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service - Monday, Jan. 15
Volunteer for a community clean up at a preferred location and project from 8 a.m. to noon. - Volunteer to assist Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park staff during the MLK Parade - Monday, Jan. 15
Interested volunteers can register by Jan. 14. Schedule is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Environmentally Endangered Lands (EEL) Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service/Environmental Project and Tour - Monday, Jan. 15
Participate in EEL's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's Day of Service/Environmental Project and Tour at Larry and Penny Thompson and Martinez Preserve at 2:30 p.m.
