World Elder Abuse Awareness Day June 15

Elder Abuse Awareness

Approximately 1 in 10 older Americans are victims of elder abuse, neglect or exploitation. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is on June 15. The Miami-Dade County Office of Community Advocacy's Elder Affairs Advisory Board has valuable resources to help protect seniors from elder abuse.

The power to prevent elder abuse is in your hands.

What is Elder Abuse? Elder abuse is any act by a family member, friend or caretaker which causes mistreatment and neglect to an older individual. The abuse may be physical, social, financial, psychological or sexual.

If you or someone you know is a victim of abuse report it to police. You can also call to speak with a counselor concerning elder abuse, call the Miami-Dade Police Department's Special Victims Bureau at 305-418-7200.
