Northside District Home Beautification Project

Helping a Senior Citizen in Need

Seventy-one year old widow, Mrs. Josefa Arencibia, will be the beneficiary when the Community Oriented Policing Services Unit (COPSU) of the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Northside District, embarks on its first home beautification for 2017, this Saturday, March 18.

Since 2016, COPSU, under the leadership of Major Ricky Carter, has partnered with local businesses to assist needy senior citizens in the District, by upgrading their homes; painting, landscaping and doing general repairs.

Mrs. Arencibia and her husband migrated to the United States from Cuba in 1981. Ten years later they moved into the home at 2780 NW 97 Avenue. Mr. Arencibia, who was the family’s sole financial provider, started repairs to the home in 2012; however, he became ill shortly after starting the project.

Major Carter, who has spearheaded the Home Beautification Projects, says “The idea is to make Mrs. Arencibia’ s home as beautiful as when she first received the keys in 1991.”

The work will begin Saturday morning at eight o’clock.
