The Miami-Dade Police Department, Homicide Bureau is conducting an investigation into the death of a one year-old boy.
According to investigators, a 911 call was received in reference to a one year-old boy not breathing. Officers, along with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel arrived to the scene and the baby boy was pronounced deceased. Investigators are interviewing the baby's mother to gather all pertinent information. The Medical Examiner was summoned to the scene to conduct an examination and determine the cause of death. Investigators continue to follow all leads and urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).
UPDATE #1: Further investigation revealed, that while the ten year-old sibling was attempting to bathe the baby boy, the four year-old brother made the bath water extremely hot, causing the baby to sustain severe burns from his mid torso to his toes. Christina Hurt did not take the baby to receive medical attention at the time of the incident. The following day, after dropping off the other children in school and bypassing Homestead Hospital, Christina Hurt took the baby to a residence, located at 12268 S.W. 217 Street and showed her friend the baby's injuries. She noticed the baby was lethargic, which was not consistent with his usual behavior. Hurt expressed her concerns with seeking medical attention for the baby; however, decided to try another first aid remedy instead. Moments later, the baby became unresponsive, he was taken outside of the residence and placed on a matress in the front yard. An unknown female, who was outside of the residence, contacted emergency services. Christina Hurt was placed under arrest and charged accordingly.
Further investigation also revealed that Christina Hurt has previously been under Florida Department of Children and Families investigation for Child Neglect, where she temporarily lost custody of her children.
