Narcotics Investigation Nearly 40 People Arrested

Operation Smoke

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --

Investigators with the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) Northside District in collaboration with the US Marshals Service, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office arrested nearly 40 individuals as part of a joint operation related to firearms and narcotics.

Operation Smoke began as an effort to reduce gun violence in our neighborhoods. During the course of the investigation, detectives identified numerous locations where repeat narcotics sales were taking place. Investigators developed information that recent shootings and gang activity were related to the drug activity in these locations. As a result of the operation, nearly 40 subjects have been arrested, 14 search warrants were served and 19 firearms were seized thus far. Investigators confiscated over 9,000 grams of marijuana, over 100 grams of powder cocaine, an excess of 200 grams of crack cocaine, and an additional 83 grams of MDMA. Over $32,000 in US currency was seized during the investigation.

We remain committed to keeping our communities safe from gun violence.
