(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Miami-Dade Police Department, Homicide Bureau is investigating human remains found inside Bill Baggs State Park. According to investigators, a park biologist was performing plant removal duties of non-native plant species, when she found what appeared to be a human skull located between the trail and the tree line. The Medical Examiner's Office performed an examination and determined that the skull was that of a human. The skull was sent to the University of Florida, Anthropology Department for further evaluation. An Osteological Examination Report summarized that the remains was of a female who was most likely over the age of 60 at the time of death. The report further concluded that no evidence of trauma was present. Furthermore, the University of North Texas, Health Science Center, Forensic Investigative Genetics Department stated that the DNA obtained from the skeletal remains was consistent with a female contributor.
The investigators collaborated with the Forensic Artist to create a facial reconstruction of the found skull in attempts to identify the deceased person. They are seeking the assistance of the community in identifying the deceased person and/or obtaining additional information regarding this investigation.
