(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is investigating a police involved shooting.
According to investigators, Miami-Dade Police Department officers were dispatched to a call of shots fired, in the area of NW 75th Street and NW 17th Avenue. Detectives assigned to the Robbery Intervention Detail (RID) were in the area and responded to the call. As RID detectives arrived, they observed three males fleeing on foot and bicycles. One of the subjects, armed with a firearm, was apprehended immediately. The two remaining subjects continued to flee as RID detectives followed. One of the fleeing subjects was apprehended without incident. The remaining subject was armed with a firearm and at some point, as detectives attempted to apprehend him, shots were fired. The armed subject was also taken into custody and subsequently transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his lower extremity. A preliminary investigation revealed that the two guns found in the subjects' possession are reported stolen.
The investigation is still active and the two armed subjects will be charged accordingly. As with all police involved shootings, the FDLE is the lead investigative agency.
