Police Impersonator Arrested

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --

Detectives from the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) arrested an individual for impersonating a police officer.

According to investigators, as the victim drove on the Turnpike, he observed red flashing lights in the grille of the vehicle traveling behind him. The victim, believing he was being pulled over by police, changed lanes and the vehicle continued to follow him.  As the victim began to slow down, the vehicle drove past him and fled the area. The victim, who has significant law enforcement experience, found the events suspicious and flagged down a passing MDPD marked police vehicle.  MDPD officers located and stopped the vehicle on SR 836. The subject, driver, was armed with a firearm that he carried holstered on his waistband. The subject and an occupant in the vehicle were detained and interviewed.  The subject was arrested and charged accordingly.  The passenger in the vehicle was not charged and released.
