According to investigators, at approximately 7:10 a.m., MDPD received a 9-1-1 call originating from 3253 SW 154 Court. The caller stated that their father was killing their mother with a knife. When the officer arrived, he made contact with Mr. Gonzalez, who was armed with a knife. A confrontation ensued, resulting in the officer discharging his firearm striking Mr. Gonzalez. The officer attempted lifesaving efforts to Mr. Gonzalez to no avail. Ms. Morejon succumbed to her injuries on scene. No one else was injured during the incident.

At this time, the FDLE investigation continues.  Information received thus far indicates that a knife was recovered as evidence from the scene of the encounter.
