Attorney Profile

Christopher A. Angell is a litigator who has practiced in state court at both the trial and appellate levels and in federal court at the trial level. As a member of the Governmental Affairs Section and the Zoning, Land Use & Environmental Section, Chris handles a broad variety of cases ranging from foreclosure defense to environmental, fire, and building code enforcement. He also serves as legal counsel to the Medical Examiner's Department, the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources, the Finance Department's Credit and Collections' Division, the Nuisance Abatement Board, the County's Code Enforcement Hearing Officers, the Criminal Justice Council, and the Public Safety Coordinating Council. In addition, he serves as back-up counsel to the Environmental Quality Control Board. As needed, Chris also assists with other complex federal and state litigation and drafts legislation. Previously, Chris worked in the office's Tort and Medical Malpractice Section, handled personnel appeals and code enforcement appeals, and served as legal counsel to the Sea Level Rise Task Force and the Unsafe Structures Board and Panel.

Chris has been evaluated for professionalism and tested for expertise by the Florida Bar and is board certified by the Florida Bar as an expert in City, County, and Local Government Law.

Before joining the County Attorney's Office, Chris worked at the State Attorney's Office for Miami-Dade County. There he prosecuted complex homicide and death penalty cases as well as economic crime based racketeering and public corruption matters. As an Assistant State Attorney, Chris tried hundreds of bench trials and dozens of jury trials, including more than twenty homicides and two death penalty cases.
