    Geri Bonzon-Keenan was appointed County Attorney by the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners effective March of 2021.  Ms. Bonzon-Keenan  previously served as First Assistant County Attorney, second in command to the County Attorney, from 2015-2021.  As County Attorney, Ms. Bonzon-Keenan provides legal counsel to the 13-member Board of County Commissioners, the Mayor, the Property Appraiser, the Public Health Trust, all of the County's administrative departments, and numerous County boards, agencies, and councils. In addition, Ms. Bonzon-Keenan oversees over 135 employees, including approximately 75 lawyers.

    The Office handles extensive litigation in state and federal courts and transactional matters in a multitude of substantive civil areas including, among others: construction and commercial litigation; real estate and commercial transactions; appeals; employment and labor law; workers' compensation; environmental, land use and zoning law; eminent domain; transportation law; bankruptcy; municipal finance; taxation; health law; tort liability and medical malpractice.  

    Geri joined the County Attorney's Office in 1995.  Prior to holding the position of First Assistant County Attorney, Geri served as the Lead Attorney for the Real Estate and Commercial Transaction section of the office and as a member of both the Commercial and Construction Litigation section and the Tax and Finance section.

    Throughout her tenure as an Assistant County Attorney, Geri has served as counsel in a number of different practice areas, including complex commercial transactions, real estate, municipal finance, tax increment financing, social services and procurement.  She also worked for a number of years at the County Attorney's Miami International Airport satellite office, where she served as counsel to the Miami-Dade Aviation Department on its financing, procurement, real estate, airport security and labor matters as well as its Capital Improvement Program.

    Geri has also had an extensive transactional practice with particular emphasis on complex commercial development projects and public private partnerships.  For instance, she has represented the County with respect to the development, design, construction and financing of the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, the American Airlines Arena, the new Marlins ballpark, the Port Tunnel, and the Hard Rock Stadium modernization. Serving as lead counsel on those projects she handled the preparation of documents, including, development and construction contracts, professional service agreements, operating and management agreements, guaranty agreements, interlocal cooperation agreements with other governmental agencies, ordinances and resolutions, and financing documents related to the issuance of municipal debt, and participated in the litigation, mediation and arbitration of disputes resulting therefrom.
