    Gerald K. Sanchez is the First Assistant County Attorney.  In addition to his supervisory duties, Gerald provides legal counsel to each of the County Commissioners, the County Mayor, the Board of County Commissioners, and the County's administrative departments, boards and agencies.  

    Gerald K. Sanchez joined the County Attorney's Office in April of 1992.  Prior to holding the position of First Assistant, Gerald served as the Chief of the Transportation Section which represents, among other departments and boards, the Miami-Dade Aviation Department, the Department of Transportation and Public Works, PortMiami, the Passenger Transportation Regulatory Division, the Transportation Planning Organization and the Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust.  Gerald also served as the Section Chief of the Ethics and Accountability Section which interfaces with the Office of the Inspector General and the Miami-Dade Commission on Ethics and Public Trust. 

    Throughout his tenure as an Assistant County Attorney, Gerald has served as counsel to numerous county departments and boards, represented the County in litigation at both the state and federal level and drafted and reviewed ordinances, resolutions and contracts.  He has earned a preeminent AV peer review rating (5.0 out of 5.0) from Martindale-Hubbell, and was selected by the Daily Business Review as a finalist in the Complex/Business Litigation category for the 2009 Most Effective Lawyers.

    Gerald received his B.A. in History, with high Honors, from the University of Florida in 1981, and was selected to be a member of Phi Beta Kappa.  In 1984, he earned a B.A. in Law from Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge.  Gerald then earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School.  Prior to joining the County Attorney's Office, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Ernest C. Torres, United States District Court Judge for the District of Rhode Island, from 1988 to 1989, and the Honorable Joseph W. Hatchett, United States Court of Appeals Judge for the Eleventh Circuit, from 1989 through 1990.  Gerald has volunteered for a number of organizations including Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Habitat for Humanity.
