Community Affairs Unit
The office is responsible for answering media inquiries, updating and maintaining the agency's social media platforms, producing publications and facilitating tours. This includes producing various content for distribution, such as newsletters, brochures, posters, video content, and writing speeches, news releases and fact sheets. The office also manages the agency's employee recognition ceremony, community outreach events, and jail tours.
The Public Affairs Manager oversees the agency's social media and coordinates community engagement events.
The unit manages crisis communications, solicits media coverage of departmental activities, serves as a liaison to the media, releases information to the public, and facilitates media access to institutions, programs, employees, and offenders pursuant to state law and departmental policies. The unit responds to media requests made under the Florida Public Records Law. Media requests can be sent to [email protected].
The Community Affairs Unit works toward building positive long-term relationships with outside stakeholders and establishments necessary for our growth, success, and commitment to public safety. The unit provides timely and relevant information to educate and inform the public, the news media, agency staff, and stakeholders on the policies, events, operations and successes of the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department.
