The Miami-Dade Police Department’s Homeland Security Bureau (HSB) is comprised of five sections: Intelligence and Investigations, Priority Response Team, Southeast Florida Fusion Center, Real Time Crime Center, and the Southeast Regional Domestic Security Task Force. Each section has a specific task and combined they augment and enhance the Department’s capability to respond and address the growing homeland security initiatives. While the HSB’s primary jurisdictional responsibility is unincorporated areas of Miami-Dade County (MDC); personnel provide homeland security and criminal intelligence gathering and dissemination assistance to law enforcement agencies at the local, regional, state, federal, and international levels.

Operational Sections

Intelligence & Investigation Section (IIS)
The IIS are the primary departmental detectives on investigations encompassing threats of mass shootings, threats to infrastructure, or threats to places of worship. Additionally, the IIS has a Cyber Crimes Unit, which investigate suspicious activity reports, computer-generated crimes, and prepare for prosecution of criminal activities at state and federal levels.

Priority Response Team (PRT)
The PRT is a specially trained and selected group of officers uniquely equipped and deployed throughout MDC. The core mission of the PRT is to provide a rapid, coordinated, and overwhelming response to mass casualty attacks and critical incidents, to include active shooter situations and acts of terrorism.

Southeast Florida Fusion Center (SEFFC)
The SEFFC focuses on the development and exchange of criminal intelligence, and provide a timely exchange of information regarding crime or criminal related activity within the law enforcement community. The SEFFC’s purpose is to enhance partnerships which establish connections between each facet of the law enforcement community. The SEFFC affords law enforcement personnel all available intelligence resources and communications capabilities. Unless readily shared, critical information is without value.

Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC)
The RTCC functions as a centralized data hub that rapidly mines information across multiple criminal, civil, and social media sources.  Such information includes video and still imagery, data analysis, and access to ShotSpotter, a Gunshot detection, location, alert, and analysis solution deployed across MDC.  The RTCC represents the total assimilation of technology into law enforcement.

Southeast Regional Domestic Security Task Force (SRDSTF)
The HSB also participates in the SRDSTF, which was established to address preparation and response efforts by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, fire rescue departments, first responder personnel, and others in dealing with potential or actual terrorist acts within or affecting this state.  The goal of the SRDSTF is to strengthen our domestic security prevention, preparedness, protection, response, and recovery capabilities through interagency commitment.
