Special Transportation Service (STS)

Special Transportation Service (STS) is a shared-ride public transportation service of Miami-Dade County in compliance with the complementary paratransit service provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. STS offers door-to-door transportation service from the main entrance of pick-up to the main entrance of drop-off locations.

The service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be used throughout Miami-Dade County for work, school, shopping, recreation and medical appointments.

  • Eligibility & Requirements

    Who is eligible for STS?

    • Miami-Dade County residents whose physical or mental disability prevent them from using accessible public transportation (Metrobus, Metrorail, or Metromover) independently.
    • Miami-Dade County residents with temporary disabilities are eligible for STS during the period of their disability.
    • People with disabilities from out-of-town that are presumed eligible under ADA jurisdiction.
  • How to Apply

    Print and complete the application. A Florida Licensed Physician must complete and sign the medical verification form.

    Once completed and signed, call the Paratransit Customer Service Office to schedule an appointment for an in-person eligibility assessment.

    If you have no other means of transportation, STS will be provided to attentd the in-person assessment.

    A determiniation of service will be provided within 21 days of the in-person assessment.

  • Fees

    The fee is $3.50 per one-way trip, as well as for companions. Personal Care Attendants ride free and must be pre-certified.

    Prepaid vouchers can also be purchased. 

    Certified STS riders can use Metrobus and Metrorail free of charge.

  • Appeals

    If denied eligibility, you can appeal by mail within 60 days to the Office of Civil Rights and Labor Relations.

    Submitting additional medical documentation does not constitute a request for appeal.
