District 12 encompasses an area of Western Miami-Dade and includes the City of Doral, a portion of Hialeah, Hialeah Gardens, MedleySweetwater and Virginia Gardens and a large portion of unincorporated Miami-Dade County.
Voters in District 12 first elected José "Pepe" Diaz to the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners in September 2002. Commissioner Diaz was reelected in August 2018.

Commission protects public housing residents from evicitions during natural disasters

The Miami-Dade County Commission on Nov. 19 approved legislation sponsored by Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz to protect residents of County-owned housing from evictions during natural disasters. The resolution directs the Miami-Dade Police and Public Housing departments to take no action to facilitate the eviction of residents of public housing or other County-owned affordable housing during a declared state of emergency.

Dolphin Station Park and Ride Transit Facility

Coming this fall, the Dolphin Station Park and Ride Transit Terminal Facility located at 11897 NW 12th Street, will accommodate a new Bus Rapid Transit along the Dolphin Expressway connecting to Downtown, along with several other local bus routes, and the potential for growth to include rail.
