Vehicle Immobilization (Booting) License

All businesses and individuals that immobilize (boot) vehicles parked on private property must be registered with Miami-Dade County.

Private property lots must have signs at each exit indicating that the property is an immobilization zone.

Upon successful completion of the application process, each vehicle immobilization permit holder must prominently wear identification stating the full name of the business and permit holder on the front left side of the shirt at all times when performing vehicle immobilization work.

Licensees must comply with all requirements of the Towing of Motor Vehicles Ordinance.

  • How to Apply

    Any person(s) or corporation that operates a vehicle immobilization business in Miami-Dade County must fill out a permit and/or license, submitted and approved by Miami-Dade County by either email, fax or in person.

    Initial applicants must apply in person Monday through Friday (except holidays) 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Renewal applicants can apply in person or by mail. Applicants must complete a criminal background check ($24.00) as part of the application process. Information regarding these requirements will be provided when the application is submitted.

    Bring with you:

    Initial applicants must complete a criminal background check and have two passport photos taken as part of the application process. Information regarding these requirements will be provided when the application is submitted.

    If the application process is not completed within 60 days from the date that the application was filed with the Regulatory and Economic Resources Department, the application will be considered abandoned and closed and a new application and fee will be required. 

    Change of Ownership

    In the event of a change in ownership of a vehicle immobilization business, a new application and fee is required.

    Business Changes

    Changes in any material aspect of the vehicle immobilization business shall be provided to the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources in writing along with proof of the change and the required fee, if replacement of the license is required, within 30 days of the change.

  • Fees

    • Annual Business Fee: $705.00
    • Annual Individual Permit Fee: $115.00
    • Background Check Fee: $24.00

    Cash will not be accepted. The non-refundable fees can be paid by check, money order or cashier’s check made payable to Miami-Dade County. If applying in person, the renewal fee can be paid by credit card (Amex, MasterCard and Visa are accepted).

    It shall be unlawful for any person to recover, tow or remove a vehicle or provide storage in connection therewith or to cause or permit any other person for compensation to recover, tow or remove a vehicle or provide storage in connection therewith, or to advertise or offer to recover, tow or remove a vehicle or provide storage in connection therewith, without first obtaining and maintaining a current and valid license
