Fire and life safety training programs are available free of charge. Training must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance.

Fire and Fall Safety for Older Adults (Remembering When™)

Remembering When™ is centered around 16 key safety messages – eight fire prevention and eight fall prevention – developed by experts from National and Local Safety organizations as well as through focus group testing in high-fire-risk states.

Fire Extinguisher Training

When faced with a fire, knowing how to extinguish it can come in handy.

This training will teach you how to effectively use a portable fire extinguisher to put out a fire first by demonstration followed by hands-on training. Each type of fire involves different flammable materials and requires a distinct approach.

Participants will acquire an understanding of the different fire extinguisher classes and which extinguisher should be used depending on the agent that fuels the fire. Fighting fire with the wrong method could make the situation worse.

All presentations require a minimum of 10 participants and last one hour. Presentations are only available to businesses and residents serviced by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

Getting Out Alive Evacuation/Fire Drill Training

Basic fire safety education for office workers and high-rise building residents helps to save lives and property in addition to heading off devastating disasters. This presentation helps raise awareness, reduce risk and ensure employees and residents are prepared for a worksite or housing emergency.

This comprehensive program explains how to create, practice and conduct an emergency evacuation plan and must be completed before scheduling a fire drill.

Businesses that have an evacuation plan in place can request fire drill monitoring.

Emergency evacuation drills must be held for every building following a predetermined emergency evacuation plan at least every six months or as often as required by Code.

The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department will assist in the coordination and scheduling of the drill activities with the building Security Director.

The drill activities should consist of the following:

Planning meeting: Fire Rescue meets with the Building Security Director and key personnel before the drill date to go over the emergency evacuation plan, become familiar with the plan and the building, and provide answers to any questions or concerns necessary to coordinate the details for the drill.
Drill Day: Fire Rescue personnel will monitor the drill and make observations of drill activities.
Post-drill critique: Fire Rescuet personnel will meet with Building Security Director and key personnel to provide information gathered during the drill and offer assistance to help improve the safe evacuation of the building.
