Dadeland South Intermodal Station Project

In 1984, the Metrorail system opened for service which included a connection between Overtown just north of Downtown Miami to the Dadeland South Metrorail station, the systems terminus station on the southern end of the Metrorail elevated guideway.

Today, the Dadeland South Station needs several infrastructure improvements to significantly enhance service reliability, comfort and safety for Metrorail and Metrobus riders.

In the spring of 2024, DTPW started working on several infrastructure renovations for the station. The Dadeland South Metrorail station is also scheduled to provide a seamless connection to the County's first-ever Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system that will operate on the South Dade TransitWay of the Strategic Miami Area Rapid Transit (SMART) Program

The Dadeland South Intermodal Station Project improvements include:
  • Installation of new canopies to provide better weather protection for transit riders on the BRT platform as well as the Metrorail platform and connecting pathways between the Metrorail platform and the drop-off/pick-up area
  • Easier access for vehicles and pedestrians to the drop-off and pick-up in the north section of the station
  • Dedicated bike path connecting to The Underline, currently under construction, as well as a future connection to the South Dade Trail
  • Improved barrier and security systems, bicycle infrastructure, lighting, landscape and hardscape elements, climate control systems, wayfinding signage and vertical circulation
  • Structural and drainage improvements and site improvements to adjacent roadways, signalized intersections, and the surface park-and-ride lot just north of the station.
Project benefits include:
  • Improved connectivity between transit services, The Underline, and the South Dade Trail which will transform the station into a complete intermodal hub
  • Enhanced safety for Miami-Dade Transit riders
  • Increased ridership on Miami-Dade Transit.
Construction plans include a phased approach to ensure continuity of service throughout the project, with short-term service adjustments as needed (e.g., temporary relocation of bus drop-off/pick-up zones) to minimize impacts for transit riders.

The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2025.
