United Way - Financial Stability Initiatives

A stable income is key to greater financial independence. Individuals and families require food and shelter for the opportunity to live healthy, satisfying and productive lives.

With nearly six out of 10 Miami households living in or on the edge of poverty, according to the United Way ALICE Report, helping people pave a path to a better future is essential.

To help people prosper economically, United Way funds 20 financial programs at impact partner agencies that are focused on helping people meet their basic needs to paving a path to financial independence.

  • United Way Center for Financial Stability

Helping working individuals and families pave a path to financial independence is a top priority for United Way. A key strategy to achieving this outcome is the United Way Center for Financial Stability. The Center provides working individuals and families with a full range of services and support — from financial coaching to free tax preparation and benefits enrollment to employment assistance and credit counseling.

The Center offers you the opportunity to meet with a financial counselor to develop a personalized plan. Then, you’ll have access to an array of invaluable free services, such as:

    • Financial education
    • Free tax preparation/EITC tax help
    • Banking
    • Benefits enrollment
    • Credit counseling and debt management
    • Free tax preparation/EITC tax help
    • Employment services
    • Home ownership assistance
    • Other asset building services (car loan, small business, etc.)

Services also offered at various locations throughout Miami-Dade County. Book your appointment today by calling 305-688-3551.

  • Free Tax Prep

When it comes to doing taxes, many individuals just know the basics. Many of them forgo tax benefits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit because they are not well-informed or have simply not heard of them.

Miami-Dade’s VITA Coalition wants to make sure you know where to turn to for answers to all your questions and help put more money in your pocket.

  • Services for Veterans

Making the transition from active duty to civilian life can pose its own set of unique challenges to veterans and their families.

If you’re one of the thousands of veterans who call Miami home, and you’re in need of a network of free support services to help you get re-acclimated to civilian life, sign up for Mission United or email missionunited@unitedwaymiami.org.
