At Fault Contractor Sewer Asset Damage Reports

While performing work in Miami-Dade County, contractors can strike and damage Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department’s (WASD) infrastructure, including wastewater mains. When a contractor damages a wastewater main, it can result in wastewater flowing into County waterways, including Biscayne Bay, which can result in environmental damage and, potentially, the inability to enjoy those waters until the water is tested and deemed safe.

Therefore, at the September 1, 2022 Board of County Commissioners Board meeting, the Commission adopted resolution R-847-22, directing the County Mayor or County Mayor’s designee to prepare a regular, six-month reports on companies that damage sewer pipes during construction in an effort to establish an effective tool for tracking and transparency, as well as to serve as a deterrent to contractors and expedite the time in which repairs are made to such damaged pipes.
