Pet Dealer License

Pet Dealer Licenses are issued for anyone who sells more than two litters or 20 dogs or cats per year, whichever is greater. This classification includes pet shops as well as breeders who sell directly to the consumer. Animal rescue organizations and hobby breeders shall be exempt from this classification.

  • Eligibility Requirements

    Interested parties should contact us to request a license application packet. Upon receipt of your request, an Animal Services Investigator will contact you to schedule an informative meeting detailing the application process.

    If you sell pets, they must be microchipped and registered to the new owner and must be sold with an original official certificate of veterinary inspection (Sec. 5-10).

    Kennel owners must present evidence that their business is legal, including:

    • Corporate documents,
    • Federal identification number from the IRS,
    • Certificate of Occupancy (Miami-Dade County and / or municipality) 
    • Business tax receipt (Miami-Dade County and / or the municipality).
  • Pet Store Monthly Accounting Report

    The Monthly Accounting Report must be submitted by the 10th of the month whether a transaction occurred or not.

    Each field on the form must be completed and the contact information must be legible on both forms.

  • Fees

    Pet dealer licenses vary in cost from $500 to $1,000, depending on the number of animals sold annually.

    Animal Businesses' License Requirements

    Lists the basic requirements for licensing kennels, breeders, pet dealers, pet care centers and hobby breeders, including: • A separate license is required for each location. • Licenses are not transferable. • All licenses expire on September 30 each year and must be renewed annually. • Requires recordkeeping. • License number must be displayed in all advertising. • Lists potential reasons for denial, suspension or revocation of licenses and how to appeal decision.

    Additional Restrictions on Animal Sales

    Adds restrictions on the sale of rabbits, fowl and turtles and prohibits the sale of artificially colored animals or fowl. Turtles must be certified by the Health Department to be free from salmonella contamination and a warning sign must be displayed near each turtle display.
