Pay a Pet Citation

Citations can be paid online using a major credit card; by phone to the Clerk of the Courts; in person at Animal Services, the Clerk of Courts office or any County courthouse; or by mail.

• The citation number must be referenced on all check payments.
• Check, money order or cashier's check must be made payable to: Animal Services.

Civil citations and violation notices may be issued to pet owners who do not comply with County ordinances or laws.

Some of the most common violations include:

• Failure to vaccinate an animal against rabies.
• Failure to obtain a license tag.
• Acquisition or keeping of pit bull dogs.
• Dog running at large.
• Unlawful tethering of dog.

If you have further questions or concerns about the notice you may have received, you can go to the Citation Unit and speak to them directly.

To dispute a citation received in error, you must provide proof of vaccination and license tag.

You have two options to dispute a citation.

Citations issued in error will be promptly voided. You will not be contacted.

Voided citations take six to eight weeks to be removed from County records. Closed citations can be verified by going to the Clerk of Courts website and entering the citation number.

You may request an administrative hearing to appeal a citation that you believe has been issued in error.

Requests must be submitted in writing within 20 calendar days from the date the citation was issued. You will be notified of the date, time, and location of your hearing. You must appear in person or you may authorize someone to appear on your behalf with a notarized power of attorney.

Failure to show up at your requested hearing may result in the hearing being held in your absence and additional administrative costs being added to your citation.

The hearing officer's decision responsibility is based on the following two items:

1. Was there a violation on the date specified on the citation?
2. Is the person named on the citation responsible for the violation?
