Important Message:

In observance of Memorial Day, the Pet Adoption and Protection Center will be closed on Monday, May 28 and open regular hours Tuesday, May 29.

Cats being presented for Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) Services must be dropped off no later than Friday, May 25 in order to allow for proper recovery from sterilization and safe return to the community prior to the holiday.

Our mission is to save the lives of abandoned animals in our care, protect animals from cruelty, reunite lost pets with their owners, protect people and pets in our community from health related issues and ensure the public’s safety.

If you are 18 years of age or older, you can adopt a pet from our Pet Adoption and Protection Center.
Adopt a Pet
Low-cost spay or neuter services are offered to Miami-Dade County residents for cats and dogs. Appointments can be scheduled up to 30 days in advance.
Spay or Neuter Surgery
Low-cost vaccinations are available for your dogs and cats at the Animal Services Pet Adoption and Protection Center.
Pet Vaccinations
Visit our location to search for your lost dog or cat. If you find a stray pet, bring it to our shelter to be reunited with its owner.
Lost & Found Pets

Licenses & Tags

Dog License (Tag)

You can buy or renew a dog license at your local veterinarian’s office, at the Pet Adoption and Protection Center or at any one of the 311 Service Centers. Dog Licenses are required for all dogs over four months of age.

Cat License

You can buy a license for your cat at the Pet Adoption and Protection Center or at any of the 311 Service Centers.

Pet Groomer License

A pet care center license for commercial grooming of animals (dogs, cats, etc.) must be obtained from Animal Services in order to operate a pet grooming business in Miami-Dade County.

Hobby Breeder License

Active members of a national, state, or local breeder organization that houses or breeds dogs or cats in or on the property of a private residence must apply for a Hobby Breeder License.

Veterinary Clinics & Pet Dealers

You can purchase bulk orders of "one-year" or "three-year" tags.

Pet Dealer License

Pet Dealer Licenses are issued for anyone who sells more than two litters or 20 dogs or cats per year, whichever is greater.

Animal Cruelty Law

Animal cruelty is defined as depriving an animal of food, water, shelter or veterinary care.

Dog License

License tags are required for all dogs. Dog license tags must be renewed annually by the anniversary of the dog’s most recent rabies vaccination.

Leash Law

When a dog goes off private property, it must be leashed at all times. Dogs are not permitted to roam free off private property.

Loud Pets

Any animal which causes frequent, habitual or long continued noise which is plainly audible at a distance of 100 feet at any time of the day.

Pets in Parked Cars

Leaving a pet in a car is considered animal cruelty.

Pit Bull Law

Pit Bulls are banned in Miami-Dade County.

About Us

Aside from our life-saving mission, we also enforce Chapter 5 of the Miami-Dade County Code and Florida Statute 828 (which deals primarily with animal cruelty issues).

Our activities include licensing, enforcing rabies vaccination requirements, spay and neuter services, vaccination services for pets, protecting the public from stray and dangerous dogs, promoting animal adoption and public education, and investigating animal cruelty cases.
